New Direction

WDG x RW+SS

Over the last decade my Filson messenger bag has traveled many miles and served me faithfully through many adventures. That bag was my first introduction to true American Craftsmanship and thus began my love for all hand crafted goods that are made to stand the test of time. The concept of items that get better with age has always intrigued me. This idea of items that you can purchase once, use for a life time, and then will them to an heir has truly captured my attention and my imagination. With this thought in mind I turned to Daniel Wright of W Durable Goods for a special collaboration on our first ever signature line of travel accessories. Daniel's craftsmanship is simply amazing. His designs are both timeless and durable. They will look even better after years of faithful services. Each piece is made to order and truly one of a kind. He hand crafts each one in his home work shop and guarantees all of his items for life. He just finished a watch band for me (which my son will one day wear) made from a vintage military bag that has opened my eyes to his exacting standards of craftsmanship. This is just a glimpse of what is to come here at Rogue Wave. Come preview our new line of limited production WDG x RW+SS colab pieces on April 28^th (6:00 pm) at the launch party of our new retail space located at 69 Spring Street in downtown Charleston, SC. I promise you’ll be stoked on them!!!

Side Note- So, here's the story of how I came to own my beloved Filson bag. For Christmas in 2001 my parents gifted me with the 50th Anniversary Issue of Playboy Magazine and a bottle of Myers Rum. Now, for some this would have been the foundation for a holiday of epic proportions, but I however was not so stoked. It's at this point that I have to mention that I was a Bible major in College. The look on my face when I opened their gift quickly brought them to the sober realization that they had just given me porn and liquor FOR CHRISTMAS... In a flash they recanted and asked me what I really wanted/ needed. As fate would have it, I had been eying my current Filson messenger bag for quite a while. This was an easy sell to parents who were eager to atone their guilty consciences from the heathen gifts they had chosen on such a holy day (for a son who was a Christian Studies major at North Greenville University). Truly classic, I'm laughing as I write remembering that time... Mom and dad, you are the best, I love you!!!
